Need advice on buying a flute...?
I am a sophomore in high school and am trying to buy myself a new flute. Because I am paying for it myself and these horrible economic times, I have been trying to find the best flute for least money. I honestly don't know anything about flutes and my teacher hasn't bought a new flute in years so she does not know a lot about them. I am totally lost, have no professional or teacher to help me, and have been going off people's opinions on forums. I really need some honest guidance...Here's what's been going on I broke my old student flute Gemeinhardt 2sp and it was " unfixable" which started this flute hunt. I was able to get another Gemeinhardt student flute for very little money from a friend of mine who had quit flute after elementary school. I plan on using this flute for marching band and want to take this oppurtunity to buy myself a nice new flute. I first started looking at flutes that had a solid silver head joint, b foot, silver plated body, open hole. That is what most of the flautists in my school symphonic band play on. All of them have the Yamaha 381 or 361 brand or they still play on their student models except for some people that graduated last year and one person this year have Yamaha Allegros. I talked to my friends and they all went to the local music store with their flute teacher a different person than my teacher but they all have the same teacher and they tried Gemeinhardt, Jupiter, and Yamaha the store also caries Haynes but they are wayyy too expensive . So I went with the mother who is tone deaf and tried the flutes. I originally loved the Yamaha 361 and the Jupiter Capital Edition silver plated headjoint and body, gold lip plate and didn't really like the Gemeinhardt solid head, plated body . Then I heard of another music store that was selling the same Gemeinhardt used for little money so I went and tried it out, and by itself it was100 % fine....but the case was dirty so I questioned the up keep of the instrument. I really am on a tight budget, paying for this 100 % by myself so I have been looking on Ebay for a deal. I found a Jupiter Carnegie solid head, plated body, gold lip plate and was all set to buy that since I liked the Capital Edition I assumed that they would have the same quality until I came across a brand new Gemeinhardt 3SBGLP whole flute solid silver, body and head, and gold lip plate for only $150 more. I thought that this was the best deal and since I want this to be my flute through college to use for recreational activites such as the symphonic band and as the flute for my hobbies for the rest of my life, I bought it. Now here comes the questioning part...I don't know if I like it. I have heard mixed feelings about Gemeinhardt from people but there are mixed feelings about every brand but I personally have never had any trouble with my student model until I broke it which was all my fault, not the flutes. But it sounds kind of airy andI dont know if I like the upper register on it. However, I have heard that some people say that solid silver flutes sound really pretty but they are harder to initially get a good sound out of. Could this mean that I am just not used to the flute and the sound will grow better??I have been playing this flute in my room and have not brought it into school yet so I don't know if the acoustics are bad but compared to my student flute, the middle range sounds really pretty but i a little airy but the upper range is horrible unless I adjust the mouthpiece but then it does not sound good in the lower register. Does this just mean I need to get used to it??Anyways, because of the long weekend I will not be back to school until Wednesday which is the last day of my 7 day trial period. After that I am stuck with it...Honest opinions please. I need some guidance Thanks and I hope what I typed makes sense haha

Advice on buying a flute..?
I'm thinking of starting playing the flute because I am thinking of becoming a woodwind teacher when I'm older. At the moment I'm about grade 7 8 oboe and 6 piano. I was wondering which flute would be best for teaching myself with. I want one thats fairly cheap under 350 abouts , but not terible quality. Thanks

I am re-posting this so it will be further forwards. I'm thinking of buying a flute. What matters?
additionaly, how much harder is an open hole flute?

I am thinking about buying a flute for my 9yr daughter. She is a beginner, playing at school for a few months.?
I know nothing about flutes and wanted to know if there is a good but inexpensive one I should look into?

Help with buying a flute?
I learned to play the flute in my grade 9 music class. I learned quickly, and I think I was pretty good at playing. I haven't played in almost four years, but I want to start playing again. Which flute should I buy? I don't want to buy a crappy flute, but I don't want to pay $500 for it either, since I'm obviously still a beginner. What would you recommend?

Where can i buy a flute on the internet?
preferably cheap and new.does anyone know any good websites?thanks.

I just bought a flute off ebay. The brand is Lafayette. I have heard of it before. Who makes it??
It is a silver tone flute not an Indian flute. Thanks for the try on the answer.

Is it my playing or is the flute broken, how can I tell?

Recently bought a flute, i know nothing about it, help?
i bought a flute for around 35, the only thing it says on the ticket is 1945 by flute chateau. Can anyone help with this?Me and my brother have a hobby together, we buy an instrument, and see who can learn the fastest or play the best. which to me is quite a good thing to keep myself occupied.also, i know how to how to get a tune out, i'm more interested about the flute i bought, not flutes in general if you get my drift.

Should I buy a flute or rent one first?
I'm just starting the flute again but it's term 2 and I was suppose to enrol in flute lessons at school at the beginning of the year. Should I get tutor and possibly rent a flute... or buy a flute and try to get back on track with my old music sheets and instruction booklets before starting lessons...?My teacher might tell me it's too late, if that was the case, should I find a tutor outside of school or practice on my own?

Buying a flute, I need a little advice about the metals used?
I am getting my first concert band flute and I just wanted to through out some questions before I get one. I am just getting a beginners intermediate level flute nothing fancy , I have played the flute for a number of years now not a band flute .Generally do nickle plated flutes sound worse than gold or silver plated flutes?Do gold plated flutes not tarnish as much as silver plated flutes? Also what are the pros and cons of a gold, nickle, or silver flutes?Thanks...

What's a good website to buy a flute?
The music shop in my town closed down so now i'm kinda lost.
